Starting with my parent’s wedding in 1956 my family movies chronicle many birthdays, parties, vacations, 1st steps, dance recitals and holidays. The participants include many generations of my family back to great-grandparents, friends of my parents and kid friends.
We started out with 8mm film, which we converted to VHS video, then to DVD and today we uploaded the MP4 digital version to YouTube. My mom typed a brief index years ago and luckily I have a copy. I'll watch the movies and match the time of the event to my mom’s notes so viewers will be able to find themselves easier.
One of the best things about making the movies digital is that everyone who wants to can see them now regardless of physical location. All you need is a device and the Internet. No more copies needed. This is awesome for my large and spread out family.
I have always loved watching these movies that now clock in just over 3 hours. Not sure what happens after this version but we will try to keep up so future generations can look back too.
