Timebox Photo Galleries 2D

If your iOS device does not meet the minimum requirements for the Timebox Photo Galleries app you will see the 2D version and not the 3D/AR version.

The 2D version of Timebox provides the same privacy and collaboration features that the 3D/AR version provides so that you and your family and groups can PRIVATELY combine, organize, explore and enjoy all the photos and stories of the things you do together.

The 2D version will look very familiar to our Timebox 5.x customers with one huge addition of the Map Timeline. Now you can see all your stories on a scrollable, searchable Map. We hope you like it.

Just in case, anyone wanted to have the 2D only mode we made it possible to turn off the 3D/AR mode by going to iOS Settings, then Timebox and switching off 3D.

Photo Galleries

When you give Timebox permission to access your photos, the powerful Timebox engine automatically creates long-lasting daily Photo Stories from your 1000s of full-fidelity photos, videos and Live Photos in your iOS Photo Library and presents them on addicting Grid and Map Timelines in your Photo Library Gallery. Simply scroll to see all your daily Photo Stories.

Each Timebox user starts with:

  • One private gallery called Photo Library that contains scrollable Grid and Map Timelines with all your daily Photo Stories (as long as you gave Timebox permission to access your Photos) and an Albums Room for your Shared Albums.

  • If you are logged into iCloud you also get one group gallery, to which you can privately invite family, friends, colleagues and clients to connect and collaborate with you.

To make a new group gallery tap the 2 Galleries button on the bottom of the screen, then tap the + left corner. One Basic group gallery and 3 templates are included to help you get started: Family Stories, Group Travelogue and Team Gallery. Type your new Gallery Name.

Timelines

Group galleries also include Grid and Map Timelines. Easily add Photo Stories from your Photo Library Gallery to your group gGalleries to fill the Grid and Map Timelines:

  • Tap the +, then tap the checkbox of the Photo Stories you want to add. Tap the Bookshelf button to add Photo Stories from Shared Albums. Tap Done when you’re finished.

  • You can also add Photo Stories directly from your Photo Library Gallery to any group gallery:

    • From either the Grid or the Map Timeline in your Photo Library Gallery, tap Select to select the Photo Stories you want to add, then tap Add To and choose the Gallery you want them added to or Make New Gallery.

HOW CAN I SEE THE PHOTO STORIES IN ANOTHER GALLERY FROM A TIMELINE?

Tap on the 2 Galleries button on the bottom of the screen to see the Timelines in your other galleries. Tap the 2 Galleries button again to go back to where you were or to a different group gallery.

MAPS

We love maps and as long as you have location services turned on in Settings they will be part of your Timebox.

Timebox automatically creates maps in your Photo Stories from any of the GPS (Global Positioning System) locations that are in the photos, videos and Live Photos in your Photo Stories. This is great for travel especially if you go somewhere like Iceland where locations such as Þorvaldseyrarvegur, Rangárþing eystra, South Iceland, Iceland are impossible, for some people, to type. You can also manually add locations to your Photo Stories by typing in location names that Timebox can translate to GPS coordinates.

When viewing a map in a Photo Story, you can tap on it and it will zoom to fill the screen. You can then tap and drag to pan around in the map and pinch to zoom in and out.

When you are in the Grid Timeline you can tap the Globe button in the lower left to switch to the Map Timeline. Tap the Thumbnail Mode button in the lower left to go back to the Grid Timeline.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE LOCATION AND MAP FOR A PHOTO STORY?

Each Photo Story has at least one location and location name associated with it. This "story location" is automatically set from the first photo in the Photo Story with a GPS location. You can edit or replace this location and its name by tapping Edit while viewing the story and then tapping the current location name or empty location field.

When you type a location name, Timebox will progressively lookup the letters that you've typed to find a matching location or locations that it will display in a popup. If you tap on one of the displayed names, Timebox will be able to get the GPS coordinates for that location.

When you finish changing the location name, tap Done to save your changes and then Timebox will display a map for the location.

WHAT ARE STORY SECTIONS AND HOW DO I CHANGE THE LOCATION AND MAP IN THEM?

Timebox automatically organizes your the photos, videos and Live Photos in your Photo Stories by time and divides them into sections based on GPS location. Each section that Timebox creates has a location and location name as well as a blank text area in which you enter any text that you wish. Edit the location name in any section just like the story location name, described above.

WHAT DO THE PINS IN A MAP REPRESENT?

The maps that Timebox displays in Photo Stories also include pins showing the specific places of your photos, videos and Live Photos. The maps for each additional section in a Photo Story include pins for all the preceding locations so you can see all the locations that you visited as you scroll your Photo Story. This lets you see where you’ve been on a trip or in a day.

HOW ARE MAPS SHOWN IN PRINTED STORIES?

When you Print your Photo Stories on your on own AirPrint printer or make a PDF, Timebox includes a map as the last page. The map includes a pin for each of the Photo Stories and any sections that contain locations with GPS coordinates.

HOW CAN I DISABLE ALL MAPS IN TIMEBOX?

If you would prefer that Timebox not automatically include maps anywhere in the interface or in things that you print, launch the iOS Settings app, scroll down and tap the Timebox section and tap on Hide Maps

Collaboration and sharing

With Timebox Photo Galleries you can share and collaborate with friends, family, colleagues and clients. You decide what and how you want to share. You can:

  • Share just one photo, a Photo Story or a selection of Photo Stories, as a movie or PDF, via email, text and social media.

  • Make a group gallery. Add your Photo Stories from a trip and invite your fellow travelers to visit your gallery and collaborate with you by adding their Photo Stories to yours. All your memories in one place.

  • Make PDF books and add them to Apple Books.

  • Invite people to visit your group gallery by tapping the People button (people silhouettes) in the upper right.

  • The people you invite will need to download the Timebox Photo Galleries app. Then they will be able to join your group gallery, add their Photo Stories to yours and edit Photo Stories added by other people creating a long-lasting, private, collaborative gallery about something or someone you have in common.

  • The default is that the people you invite can make changes but you can change them to view only on a person-by-person basis.

  • Timebox is iOS only. People without iOS devices can view your galleries but not collaborate using thetimebox.coweb app.

  • Timebox always respects your privacy: Unlike many apps, none of the data in the Timebox app is ever retained by or visible to our company, Pepper Networks, LLC.

HOW DO I INVITE OTHER PEOPLE TO MY GROUP GALLERY?

When you're in the group gallery, tap the People button (people silhouettes) in the upper left corner. Choose how you'd like to send your invitation: Message, Mail, etc. Then enter the names or addresses of the people that you'd like to invite.

HOW DO I INVITE PEOPLE TO COLLABORATE WITH ME?

Group galleries let you not only share but also collaborate on your stories with other people. When you invite people, the default sharing access is that they Can make changes. With that sharing access, the invited people can add their own Photo Stories and edit Photo Stories added by other people. They cannot delete your Photo Stories (or Photo Stories created by other people).

HOW DO I INVITE PEOPLE TO JUST VIEW MY GROUP GALLERY?

By default, people you invite will be able to make changes (collaborate) with you on your group gallery. If you'd prefer that they have view-only access, before you send your invitation, tap the Share Options button and tap View only.

You can change the access of any invited person at any time by tapping on the People button and switching their access.

CAN I INVITE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT USE AN IPHONE OR IPAD?

Yes, the timebox.co web app enables people without an iOS device (e.g., Android, Windows) to view your group galleries. However, the people you invite need to have an Apple ID, though anyone with a web browser can create an Apple ID here.

Just invite the non-iOS users via mail or text message as you would an iOS user. When a non-iOS user taps or clicks on the Timebox link in the mail or message, they will automatically open the timebox.co web page for your group gallery.

To see what your group gallery looks like in the timebox.co web app, switch to your group gallery in Timebox and then tap the Web button (globe symbol) in the upper right of the screen. This will launch Safari where you may have to login with your own Apple ID to view your group gallery.

Note: the timebox.co web app currently only supports viewing, not collaborating or adding to group galleries - only the Timebox iOS app provides those features.

HOW DO I DELETE OR REMOVE A GROUP GALLERY?

Tap on the 2 Galleries button and swipe the group gallery you want to remove and tap Delete. You must be the owner (creator) of the group gallery to remove it.

If you are the owner (creator) of the group gallery, this will permanently delete the gallery and all of the Photo Stories that are in it. This will free the storage space on your own iPhone or iPad and in your iCloud account. The group gallery will also be removed from the Timebox of all invited people.

If you are not the owner of the group gallery, deleting it will just remove it from your own Timebox App. This will free the storage space used by the gallery on your own iPhone and/or iPad and in your iCloud account.

Note: Deleting or removing a group gallery will only delete the copies of the Photo Stories in the gallery - it will not delete or affect the original versions that are in your in your Photo Library Gallery.

PHOTO STORIES

Your photos, videos, Live Photos and stories are the foundation of Timebox and everything we do is designed to help you have more fun with them. The information below will help you find your way around and discover even more ways to enjoy your photos and stories.

WHAT IS A TIMEBOX PHOTO STORY?

A Photo Story in Timebox is a group of one or more photos, videos and Live Photos plus text and maps, typically from a particular date or range of dates. Photo Stories make it easy to arrange your photos, videos and Live Photos and add titles, captions, locations, tags and other text.

When you give Timebox permission to access your Photos, the powerful Timebox engine will organize your 1000s of photos, videos and Live Photos into daily Photo Stories and present them on the Grid and Map Timelines in your Photo Library Gallery.

THE PHOTO LIBRARY GALLERY

Explore the Photo Library Gallery. As long as you gave Timebox permission to access your Photos, your Photo Stories will be presented on the Grid and Map Timelines. Tap one of the Timelines to:

  • Add as many of your own words as you want to each Photo Story including captions, titles, locations, dates and tags.

  • Customize any Photo Story by changing the order of the photos, hiding them (without deleting them), or adding photos from other Photo Stories.

  • Make new Photo Stories by selecting photos, videos and Live Photos from any date or Photo Story and combining them into a single new Photo Story.

  • Instantly search for any titles, text, tags or locations.

  • Make and share via Mail, Message and social media, stitched together movies that include individual or multiple Photo Stories - no editing necessary.

  • Print on your home printer.

  • Make and share PDF ebooks.

Timebox adds GPS location names to Photo Stories, but it also divides Photo Stories into sub-sections by location to support busy travel days when you go to multiple places in one day.

Timebox also properly handles time zones so photos are put in the correct day’s Photo Story, even when you’re traveling across the globe.

HOW DO I ADD PHOTOS TO A PHOTO STORY?

From the Photo Story, tap Edit, then tap the Camera at the bottom of the screen and choose your photo source, tap the photos you want to add and then tap Done. You can also copy/paste photos, videos and Live Photos from another Photo Story.

HOW DO I MOVE A PHOTO OR A BUNCH OF PHOTOS FROM ONE PHOTO STORY TO ANOTHER?

Tap Edit, tap Select, select the photos, then tap Move To and choose the new date. This will remove the photos from the original Photo Story and move them to the new date.

You can also tap Select, select the photos you want to copy, tap the Activity button in the lower right corner and then tap Copy to copy them to the iOS pasteboard. You can Paste them into an existing Photo Story by going to the Photo Story and tapping Paste. You can also create a new Photo Story by tapping the Compose button and then tapping Paste.

You can also tap and hold on a photo and choose Copy or Paste.

HOW DO I COPY, PASTE OR SHARE JUST 1 PHOTO?

Tap and hold the photo, then choose Copy, Paste or Share

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIDING AND REMOVING A PHOTO?

When the photos are automatically added you can Hide them. Hidden photos will be at the end of your Photo Story and you can unhide them anytime. When you manually add photos you can Remove them. Timebox never deletes any photos from your Photo Library.

WHAT IS THE NUMBER IN THE RIGHT HAND CORNER OF SOME PHOTO STORIES ON THE TIMELINE?

The number is the total number of (unhidden) photos in the Photo Story.

HOW DO I SHARE THE PHOTOS IN A PHOTO STORY?

To share all the photos in a Photo Story, view the Photo Story, tap the Action button (up arrow in a box symbol) in the lower right, then choose your share method: Message, Mail, Save, Copy, Save to Files, etc.

Make a sharable movie with individual Photo Stories or by selecting multiple Photo Stories. Tap the Action button, tap Make a Movie and then tap the Action button to share it.

To share specific photos in a story, while viewing a Photo Story, tap Select, then tap the checkbox of the desired photos or videos to select them, then tap the Action button.

In order to share via Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Flickr, Vimeo, etc. you will need to download the corresponding app from the App Store, launch the app and log in. Once you do that, the app icon will appear when you tap the Action button.

Note: due to a limitation in Dropbox, to save photos to Dropbox, you'll have to select one photo at a time.

DOES TIMEBOX MAKE A COPY OF MY PHOTOS?

Timebox does not make additional copies or use additional storage space on your device or iCloud for the Photo Stories in your Photo Library Gallery. Timebox only maintains links to the photo or video files in your Photo Library. The only exceptions are: (1) when you paste a photo from an app other than Photos (e.g., Safari, Mail) Timebox will save a copy, and (2) Timebox version 2 previously made copies of your photos and those copies are retained by current Timebox versions.

For the Photo Stories in group galleries Timebox does make a copy. This is required by iOS and iCloud in order to make the private photos, videos and Live Photos in your Photo Library visible to other people. This is also helpful because it ensures that the images that you share are the ones that will be visible to other people, unaffected by whether you subsequently edit or delete the photos from your Photo Library.

WHY ARE SOME PHOTOS BLURRY AND WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?

Photos can be temporarily blurry (actually the low resolution thumbnail) before they are downloaded from iCloud.

WHAT ARE LIVE PHOTOS AND HOW DO THEY WORK?

Live Photos are really fun and Timebox movies are the perfect way to share them.

  • A Live Photo is a combination of up to a three-second video and a still photo that is taken automatically when you press the shutter button in the Camera app (iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X or XR) if Live Photos are turned on. It grabs up to 1.5 seconds of 960x720 video before and 1.5 seconds of video after you tap the shutter button.

  • Tap and hold anywhere on the photo and you will see the 2-3 second Live Photo with the moments just before and after it was taken.

  • When you Make a Movie in Timebox it will include Live Photos, still photos and videos. If you do not want a particular photo or video included you can hide it by editing the Photo Story and tapping the Hide button.

WHAT ARE ICLOUD SHARED ALBUMS?

iCloud Shared Albums are a feature of the iOS Photos app and you can view automatically created Photo Stories for the photos in any of your Shared Albums by tapping the 2 Galleries button in your Photo Library Gallery.

Note: While you can view and edit the Timebox Photo Stories created for iCloud Shared Albums, the Photo Stories are not visible to other people. To share the Photo Stories with other people tap the Photo Story or Photo Stories you want to share, tap Add To, then create a new group gallery or Add To an existing group gallery.

You can also tap the Activity button and share via Message, Mail or Social Media just like you would in your Photo Library Gallery.

WHY IS MY PHOTO MISSING THE LOCATION INFO?

Not all photos have location info. For example, the GPS on your iPhone or iPad may not have been able to determine your location when you were taking the photo. Or maybe you may have Location Services turned off in your iOS Settings app, or the Photos app may have Location Services disabled (Never) in the Settings app.

You can add location information to a Photo Story anytime. Tap Edit, then add the location to the Location Name text block.

WHY ARE SOME PHOTOS MISSING FROM MY TIMEBOX?

Usually this is because the photos were hidden or not part of your Photo Library. If you are using iCloud Photo Library or an iCloud Shared Photo Album, photos need to download to your iPhone or iPad before Timebox can access them. You may have to run the Photos app before you run Timebox, since the iCloud downloader gets started by the Photos app.

IF I DELETE A PHOTO IN THE PHOTOS APP WILL IT ALSO BE DELETED IN TIMEBOX?

The photo will be deleted from any Photo Stories in your Photo Library Gallery. However, when you share a Photo Story to a group gallery, Timebox makes a copy of it, so it will not be deleted from any Photo Stories in your group galleries.

WHY DO I SEE GRAY OR BLACK SQUARES?

Because the photo has not been downloaded. If this persists Contact Us.

HOW DO I IMPORT PHOTOS FROM FACEBOOK, DROPBOX ETC?

Timebox does not import photos but accesses all your photos in your Photo Library (or Camera Roll).

CAN I TAKE PHOTOS OR EDIT THEM WITH APPS BESIDES THE IOS CAMERA APP?

Yes, any app like Camera+, ProCamera, VSCO or Snapseed that allows you to save your photos and videos to the Photo Library or Camera Roll will work with Timebox.

Note: you can only use bold, italic and underline in a text block in a Photo Story, not in the story title or photo captions.

HOW DO I SPLIT ONE PHOTO STORY INTO TWO PHOTO STORIES ON THE SAME DATE?

You'll also notice the convenient built-in searches "On This Day", "During This Week" and "New Unread". The built-in searches make it easy to find old and new Photo Stories.

If you’re doing a search in a gallery, the search only searches in that gallery.

HOW DO I SHARE OR SAVE A MOVIE?

ARE THERE ANY SIZE LIMITS?

  • Instagram - 60 seconds.

  • iMessage - seems to handle fairly large videos.

  • WhatsApp - 16MB

CAN MOVIES BE VIEWED ON ANDROID AND WINDOWS?

There are many versions of Android and Windows, Timebox movie videos are in H.264 format and should play on virtually all of them. Please let us know if you have a problem.

I SHARED A MOVIE VIA IMESSAGE AND SAW GREEN TEXT IS THIS A PROBLEM?

When you choose to share a Timebox movie via iMessage, you can share very large movies (we don't know the limit)  with people who also use iMessage. However, if you want to share a movie with a person who does not use iMessage (e.g., Android user), the name or phone number of the user will be displayed in green text instead of blue text and the size of the movie may be very limited.

WHY IS MY MOVIE BLACK?

When Timebox is unable to obtain a full-resolution photo from iCloud or your Photo Library, the video frames may be black or you will receive an error. Sometimes you can try again when you have a better Internet connection. If that still doesn't work and you're willing to eliminate the problem photo, you can hide or remove it from the Photo Story.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE PLAY TIME OF A MOVIE?

Press and move the seconds per photo slider to your preferred time per image. Note that you cannot change the time for any videos (or Live Photos), since those are always included at their full length.

WHY WAS MY MOVIE NOT RECEIVED BY THE EMAIL RECIPIENT?

Sometimes a movie video is not delivered by email because it is too large. Check the Sent box in your Mail app for the status. As an alternative you can try enabling MailDrop when sending or sharing via iMessage or Vimeo.

HOW LARGE (MB) CAN A MOVIE BE FOR SHARING?

Movies should be under 25 MB to be handled by most email providers. MailDrop, iMessage or Vimeo are other choices for sharing large Timebox movies.
